Borrow Not Buy

Think before you buy something. How about renting or borrowing what you need instead? It all helps reduce the amount items that may end up in landfill sites.

Some items may be available to hire, share or borrow from someone else. Libraries have long been a place to obtain books. There are other places to hire films, suits, tools and other equipment too.

By hiring, borrowing and sharing we are not adding to the mountain of redundant and unwanted items needing disposal.

Look at what you've brought over the years. Would it have been easier to hire these instead?

How often have you used an item, do you really need it, or could it be hired or borrowed from someone else?

There are local outlets who can help and they will save you money. Or if you do purchase something, could this be with the intension of lending it to friends and family also?

The days when washing machines, televisions and video players could be hired from rental shops has long since gone.

It may be difficult to rent or repair equipment, but hiring music and films instead is a good alternative.

Think about hiring books, DVDs, newspapers, maps, story tapes, audio books, music CDs, music scores, language courses and more at your local library or rental shops.

For the more sporty, what about hiring a set of golf clubs instead? Bicycles, cars and vans, catering equipment and wine glasses, fancy dress costumes, suits and clothing are all available.

There are even more items available, and by hiring, sharing and borrowing we are helping to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
