Port health

The Council operates a Port Health service under the title of Newhaven Port Health Authority. This services provides a 365 day a year port health service for the Port of Newhaven.

We meet ships arriving from outside the European union on arrival and issue Ship Sanitation exemptions certificates on request.  The current charges from 1 January 2008 are as follows:

Ships up to 3,000 gross tonnage - £100
Ships from 3,001 - 10,000 - £150
Ships from 10,001 - 20,000 - £200
Ships from 20,001 - 30,000 - £230
Ships over 30,000 - £300

With the exception of:
* Vessels with the capacity to carry between 50 and 1000 persons - £300
* Vessels with the capacity to carry more than 1000 persons - £500

Extra charges may be added for exceptional costs such as launch hire.

If and when food is imported through the port from countries outside the Europe we ensure that it meets required standards for import into this country.
