Parking

Car parking in Lewes District is available both on and off street, with East Sussex County Council (ESCC) being responsible for "on street" provision and Lewes District Council (LDC) operating all "off street" sites, which are available to the public within town centre areas. To search for a car park by post code go to http://www.multimap.com/

The responsibility for the maintance of "off street" car parks rest with LDC and enforcement of the regulations are administered by National Car Parks (NCP) on behalf of ESCC and LDC via The Parking Shop.

The LDC car parks are a mixture of free, Pay and Display and pay on exit. They are regulated by a car parking order, made under the provision of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and 1991. Which details the classes of vehicle permitted in each car park, maximum parking periods and charges.

Charges

Where fees apply the charging period is from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday (some sites are free on Saturdays) most of these sites operate on a "Pay and Display" basis. Some sites are designated for “Season Ticket” holders only these are prepaid quarterly. The multi-storey car park serving the centre of Newhaven is manned and has entry and exit barriers controlling access, with payment on exit. Sundays are free of charge at all sites

Penalties

Penalty Charge Notices may be levied in relation to non payment, failure to display ticket, exceeding paid for period and ticket not covering the time/place where the vehicle is parked. Other offences include, obstruction, parking in a permit holder only Car Park, and exceeding the maximum stay period.

Restrictions

Height restriction barriers are sited at some of the car parks to prevent unauthorised use by high sided vehicles (HGVs etc), these are catered for at one site only (The Buckle - Seaford). Touring coaches can park at one location in Lewes (Spring Gardens) in the indicated bays. There is no provision for touring caravans at any of our sites and overnight sleeping in any vehicle is prohibited in all of our car parks.

Disabled Parking

Disabled Badge holders (blue badge) may park free of charge in any of our “pay and display” car parks for a limited period. A current badge must be clearly displayed and all conditions of issue must be adhered to. Most of our sites have designated “Disabled Bays” but any bay can be used without charge if these are all occupied or none are designated.

Signage

Our car parks have information boards to advise users of tariff charges, time restrictions, excess charges etc.

All car parks have a copy of the current "Parking Order" on display, which lists the conditions and regulations which apply at our sites. Some town centre car parks have Tourist Information displays with a location map to assist with directions.
