The responsibility for the maintenance of "off street" car parks rest with Lewes District Council and enforcement of the regulations are administered by NSL Services Ltd on behalf of East Sussex County Council and Lewes District Council via The Parking Shop. The Parking ShopFor more information about car parking, permits and penalty notices contact the Parking Shop. The shop is staffed by NSL Services Ltd personnel and East Sussex County Council officers. Opening hours: Monday –Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday, 9am – 1pm. The Parking Shop The Lewes District Council car parks are a mixture of free, Pay and Display and pay on exit. They are regulated by a car parking order, made under the provision of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and 1991. Which details the classes of vehicle permitted in each car park, maximum parking periods and charges. ChargesWhere fees apply the charging period is from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday (some sites are free on Saturdays) most of these sites operate on a "Pay and Display" basis. Some sites are designated for “Season Ticket” holders only these are prepaid quarterly. The multi-storey car park serving the centre of Newhaven is manned and has entry and exit barriers controlling access, with payment on exit. Sundays are free of charge at all sites PenaltiesPenalty Charge Notices may be levied in relation to non payment, failure to display ticket, exceeding paid for period and ticket not covering the time/place where the vehicle is parked. Other offences include, obstruction, parking in a permit holder only Car Park, and exceeding the maximum stay period. RestrictionsHeight restriction barriers are sited at some of the car parks to prevent unauthorised use by high sided vehicles (HGVs etc), these are catered for at one site only (The Buckle - Seaford). Touring coaches can park at one location in Lewes (Spring Gardens) in the indicated bays. There is no provision for touring caravans at any of our sites and overnight sleeping in any vehicle is prohibited in all of our car parks. Disabled ParkingDisabled Badge holders (blue badge) may park free of charge in any of our “pay and display” car parks for a limited period. A current badge must be clearly displayed and all conditions of issue must be adhered to. Most of our sites have designated “Disabled Bays” but any bay can be used without charge if these are all occupied or none are designated. SignageOur car parks have information boards to advise users of tariff charges, time restrictions, excess charges etc. All car parks have a copy of the current "Parking Order" on display, which lists the conditions and regulations which apply at our sites. Some town centre car parks have Tourist Information displays with a location map to assist with directions. Coach ParkingThere are a number of drop off and pick up points for visiting coaches in the town centre, and two areas allocated for long stay parking.Relevant Documents
