Water Safety - Life Saving Appliances

Provided to safeguard the public who frequent any land adjacent to water which is the responsibility of Lewes District Council, life saving appliances, in the form of lifebelts, are installed and maintained by the Council along:

(a) our bathing beaches
(b) Denton Island
(c) the undercliff walk at Peacehaven and Saltdean
(d) the riverwalk in Lewes and
(e)The Pells, Lewes.

Vandalism of the lifebelts is an ongoing problem and it should be noted that byelaws made under section 234 of the Local Government Act 1972 make it an offence to interfere with life saving appliances.
