These emergency plans are the subject of regular exercises with our partners to keep them up to date and effective. As well as a general Emergency Plan to cover all major incidents (eg. transport accidents, terrorism), we have a specific Flood Emergency Plan for Lewes. This is a brief outline of how the Council responds to each of the stages of the EA's flood warning system.
If a flood occurs, the local authorities will lead the clean up and recovery programme. Again, this would be a partnership arrangement involving other public agencies, local businesses and local communities. In autumn 2000, a Lewes Flood Recovery Group was set up to promote recovery in the following areas:-
