2026 Vision: Your Community, Your Future

A view across Lewes townWe are currently working to produce the Core Strategy document that will replace the Lewes District Local Plan and form an important part of our Local Development Framework (LDF).

We are asking as many people as possible to let us know what they think about how the towns and villages within the district could evolve and grow between the present time and 2026.

We have produced a number of documents that form the Core Strategy Issues and Emerging Options Topic Papers. There are 9 topic papers in total that we would like people’s views and comments.  At the end of each of the topic papers are a number of questions that we would like views on.

This process of consultation will begin on 21 May 2010 and run until 16 July 2010.

Public drop-in sessions

We will also be holding a number of drop-in sessions at a number of locations across the district so that planning officers can be on hand to answer questions and seek local people’s views.

The “drop-in sessions” will take place as follows:

Peter Gardiner, Lead Councillor for Planning said: “We need to develop a “portrait” of Lewes District today including identifying current issues and challenges and then develop a vision for how Lewes District could be in 2026. I would urge residents and businesses to take time to look at the topic papers and let us know what they think. We want views and comments so that we can develop a Core Strategy document that reflects the needs and aspirations of the people who live and work within the district.”

Discussion forums

In addition to the 'drop in' sessions, we will be holding two discussion forums that relate to the Core Strategy Issues and Emerging Options Topic Papers, which all interested parties are welcome to attend.  The discussion forums will run from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and are held at the venues listed below on the following days:

Draft documentation

Copies of the documentation are available at Southover House, local libraries within the District as well as libraries in Uckfield, Saltdean, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.
