Affordable homes ready ahead of schedule

The first two new properties in a project to build 22 new council homes on former garage sites across the district have now been completed.

The sites in Seaford, Peacehaven and Newhaven are being transformed and when complete will boast a mix of houses and flats. Each one of the 22 new properties will be advertised on the Lewes District Council housing register. Councillor Ron Maskell, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We are bringing these brownfield sites back into use through the development of the affordable homes local residents need. I’m extremely pleased that the building work is ahead of schedule and prospective tenants have already had the opportunity to view the properties.”

Thakeham Homes is developing each site and expects the remaining homes to be completed between March and May.

Steve Tuhey, Managing Director, Thakeham Client, said: “We are delighted to be working with Lewes District Council and fully support the council’s strategy to utilise local brownfield sites. We look forward to continuing our work with the council in the future.”
