Good news for green fingers!

Garden waste

Lewes District Council is encouraging local residents who enjoy gardening but don't enjoy trips to the tip with their garden waste, to sign up for their garden waste collection service.

The service is available now in coastal parts of the district and is coming to Lewes, Kingston, Ringmer, Southease, Iford, Swanborough, Piddinghoe, St Ann Without, Glynde, Firle, Iford, Rodmell, Beddingham and Tarring Neville in April.

Once signed up the council will provide you with a 240 litre garden waste wheelie bin which will be collected from your kerbside fortnightly.

Due to lower demand no collections are made in December and January. Subscription to the service is on an annual basis and costs £70 per year including a garden waste bin at no extra cost. You can sign up for the service at any time and your subscription will run for 12 months from the date you join.

By charging for the service, residents who do not have a garden, who compost at home, or who do not wish to use the service, do not pay for the service through their council tax. We take garden waste to be recycled locally into soil conditioner which is used by farmers and gardeners in the area.
