Lewes District Council has a total of 34 separate play areas within its 112.8 square miles.
Additional play areas are managed by Parish and Town Councils.

All of the 34 play areas managed by Lewes District Council conform to the strict Health and safety guidelines relating to outdoor play equipment.

• A regular inspection and maintenance regime ensures that as far as possible all play equipment is as safe as is possible.
• Each article of equipment is inspected on a weekly basis by a ROSPA trained play inspector. All findings are recorded and acted upon on a regular basis with urgent finding being attended to before the inspectors leave the site.
• All safety bark is changed on a 5 year period or sooner if needed. The new bark is certified as being of play quality and suitability before being changed.
• Every 4 weeks all bark pits are dug over to aid maximum cushioning.
• Litter and any other debris are removed from the play areas on a daily basis to ensure maximum cleanliness.
• Annually a qualified independent inspector inspects every play area and individual piece of equipment with all findings being acted upon.
