Located on the Seaford seafront in a dip in the landscape, it occupies a former tidal inlet and, as the name suggests, has been used in the past for brick making. Although small, it contains a number of nationally rare habitats and species including vegetated shingle, and remnant saltmarsh. The dominant habitat is improved grassland, which provide home to a good slow worm population, small mammals and a variety of insects, which in turn support birds, including Kestrels. The site was saved from housing development in 1997 following a public enquiry, and now has a community group devoted to the protection of the site, the Friends of Seaford Brickfields. There are a network of footpaths on around the site, some of which are designated ' rights of way' and are maintained as part of our management programme. Relevant Documents
