Access for disabled

It is estimated that one in seven of the population have a disability. Within Lewes District we are committed to improving access for disabled residents and visitors alike. This includes access to and within buildings and access within the wider environment.

The Council's Access Officer provides the following services to residents of the District:

• advice to developers about design of new buildings and alterations to existing buildings
• advice to businesses and disabled customers on the Disability Discrimination Act 1995
• details of Access Groups
• distribute Attractions for All guide compiled for people with disabilities
• act as central resource for all disability issues
