Garages to store vehicles are available on our estates to rent for tenants, leaseholders and others.
We deal with the letting and management of council-owned garages. There are always a number available to rent at any time at competitive rates. Garages are for personal private use only and not for commercial activities.
The garages are only suitable for storing motor vehicles. They should not be used to store any soft furnishings, electrical goods and other items. We will not be responsible for any damage to such items.
Our garages are located at:
We operate a waiting list for each area. Our council tenants have priority. Preference will be given to residents who live in areas where garages are on site and parking is restricted.
Garages are available to rent only and are not able to be purchased.
Charges range from £12 - £15 per week. Non-Council tenants are also required to pay VAT which will be included in the weekly rent.
Payment is required in advance and notice will be served in the event of any arrears accruing. Council tenants will need to clear any outstanding arrears on their tenancy beforehand. If money is owed on an account a garage will not be offered.
You will need to sign a tenancy agreement. You will be required to provide 28 days written notice to bring the agreement to an end. You will be liable for the rent during the notice period.
Complete this form to apply to rent a garage from us for personal private use only.
Please note that payment of garage rental charges must be made by direct debit.
We provide parking areas on most of our housing estates. However, vehicle use has increased since our estates were designed and built. In places this has caused problems.
No one on our estates has been allocated a parking space. The parking of untaxed and/or un-roadworthy vehicles on these car park areas is forbidden.
We will remove and dispose of such vehicles. Likewise caravans, trailers, boats and other items that occupy valuable parking spaces, will be removed after a suitable notice period.
If you want to park a caravan or trailer in your garden you will need to apply for permission to install a hardstanding and carriageway crossing. Contact your Area Maintenance Officer for advice.
Parking permits are required in the De Montfort estate, St Pancras estate and Wellington Street / North Street areas of Lewes. New tenants for these areas will be supplied with one permit per household by the Housing Services Department.
Disabled parking spaces can be marked out to assist disabled residents on the recommendation of an Occupational Therapist but they will be available for use by any tenant or visitor with the appropriate Blue Badge.
