You are here: Home > Housing > Supported and sheltered housing > What is sheltered accommodation? What is sheltered accommodation?Sheltered accommodation is accommodation that is provided by the Local Authority, Housing Associations and Registered Charities and designed specifically for older people. Each organisation can provide detailed information about its own accommodation. Generally tenants are over retirement age but there is no upper age limit. There are flats and bungalows throughout the Lewes District Council area. These vary in size with the largest comprising two bedrooms. Most properties are self-contained, although there are some studio units, which have private facilities. Each Sheltered Scheme is different, with its own individual characteristics. Each offers a warden service that also varies between providers. The accommodation includes a communal alarm system, which enables help to be summoned in an emergency. |
