Tenant participation

With over 20 tenant and residents associations across the district, an umbrella organisation called Tenants of Lewes District and a range of different ways that tenants can get involved, Lewes District Council is proud of it’s tenant participation service. Two key documents set out how tenants can get involved and provide the framework for the delivery of the service, these are:

The District Compact which:

• Details an agreement -how the tenants and the Council work in partnership to improve housing services
• Lists what and how tenants can get involved in the management of the housing service
• Explains what resources are available to promote tenant involvement
• Lists tenant priorities and sets out in an action plan the priority actions for improvement 
• Explains how the improvements and service delivery will be monitored

The District Compact (formerly known as Lewes District Council’s Partnership Agreement) was first drafted in August 2000 and updated in June 2002. The latest Compact agreed between the Tenants Of Lewes District and Lewes District Council has been formerly adopted at the Tenants Conference on 28th January 2006.

The Tenant Participation Development Plan which:

Sets out the how Lewes District Council's Tenant Participation Workers will work with each association on issues which affect their neighbourhood and sets out each associations priorities for the next two years

• Identifies targets for the Tenant Participation Workers in order to assess progress
• Identifies gaps in service and how the Tenant Participation Department will address these.

The latest Tenant Participation Development Plan was produced in Sept 2005.
