Tenants' Conference 2010

Our fifth tenants' conference received fantastic feedback from all the tenants who attended.

The annual Lewes District Tenants’ Conference was held on 12th June at Sussex Downs College. The theme for this year’s tenants’ conference is Setting Local Standards.

Our new Head of Housing, Andy Chequers explained Government proposals to fund council housing that may mean more money for future improvements.

Alan Hill, Secretary of TOLD, spoke of the achievements of Tenants of Lewes District and Ruth Tahsin spoke about the Tenants Services Authority (TSA), along with exciting new ways for tenants to be involved in shaping and inspecting the services we provide.

Tenants took part in workshops on four areas where the TSA expects us set standards and targets.

Ideas included a request for more routine property inspections, tailored services for tenants in sheltered schemes, and suggestions for filling available properties as quickly as possible. There was also a great deal of interest in the new Tenant Inspector and Scrutiny roles.

All of the ideas generated will be fed into a tenants/staff working group, which will consult with you in the coming months. We’ll aim to set new standards promising the best possible housing service in the most cost effective way.

If you couldn’t get to the conference but would like more details on the presentations and workshops, please contact the Tenant Participation team.
