Housing Estate Walkabout Actions

Housing officersOur Housing officers carry out a series of estate walkabouts in the district to work with our tenants to improve the quality of these areas. Here are the actions recently agreed.

As a direct result of your involvement in estate walkabouts held during recently, we have been able to agree the following:

June - Oct 2010

In Barcombe six people turned up and the main issue that was of concern was lack of parking. This is not something that we can deal with, but we have agreed to move a no parking sign to a more visible location to help the situation. Those that attended asked if a bench could be provided in the communal area of Munster Green, this will be added to the Environmental Budget list and be considered in April 2011.

At Spences Court, Lewes, four residents turned up with concerns regarding gardening. These were passed onto Lewes District Council Community Services who deal with gardening on our communal areas. Enquiries were also made about bike storage and the Area Housing Officer is undertaking consultation on this. At St Pancras Lewes, 10 residents turned up and the main problems highlighted were communal doors, which we are looking into

At the Valley Court flats in Newhaven, 5 people turned up and as a result we helped arrange a community payback clean up in the area.

The walkabout in Golby Court, Telscombe Cliffs was also well attended, and the issues raised have been dealt with

Very few or no tenants turned up at Landport and DeMontfort Lewes, Hanson Road Newhaven, Cradle Hill and Chyngton in Seaford or The Bricky and Cinque Foil in Peacehaven. We believe this is due to the fact that they have or have had established tenant and resident associations in these areas. The associations are used as a medium for improving those areas.

We have decided to concentrate the walkabouts in areas that do not have an association, although associations can still request a walkabout with their Area Housing Officers if they feel this is necessary.
