Council Tenancies

• Council Tenancies

  A guide to tenancy agreements and the rights and responsibilities you have as our tenant.

• Introductory Tenancies

  An introductory tenancy lasts for 12 months, unless we take court proceedings or extend it due to unsatisfactory behaviour.

• Tenant Letting Standard

  New tenants moving into our homes can expect a minimum standard of décor and utilities before they move in.

• Tenant Home Insurance

  The Council insures its council dwellings. For example, in the case of a fire that destroyed a property the Council would claim on its insurance for the cost of repairing the property.

• Mutual Exchange

  Existing tenants can ask to exchange homes with another tenant of ours or another social landlord

• Right to Buy

  Some of our tenants have the right to buy their council home from us to become the legal owner of the property.

• Death of Tenant

  During this traumatic time, we will deal sympathetically with the executor.
