We seek to do this in a number of ways. Not only do we enforce laws which protect people's health and wellbeing, but we also seek to promote health and enable people to safeguard themselves. We work very closely with a number of organisations including the NHS. One of Lewes District Council's key objectives is "to help people improve the quality of life in local communities". The Council recognises that one of the major elements of people's quality of life is their state of health. We accordingly devote a large part of the available resources to protecting and promoting public health. The Council is a keen partner in the Lewes District Partnership Group working on the local part of the Health Improvement Programme. Details of the East Sussex Brighton and Hove Health Authority HIMP can be found on http://www.himp.net/. The Council's Chief Executive, John Crawford, has said: "Keeping people healthy and preventing illness is a task that the Partnership sees as a major priority for everyone". Lewes District Council is a partner in a number of the Health Improvement projects operating locally and through its services runs a number of health improvement projects of its own. Health Improvement is a long term goal but by seeking ways of preventing illness we hope that the resources of all partners involved in health can be more effectively targeted to improve our quality of life overall. LDC is involved in the following Health Improvement Projects:
