The Tree & Landscape Officer deals primarily with tree, woodland and rural hedgerow protection issues including Tree Preservation Orders and Hedgerow Retention Notices. Other duties include assessing and quantifying tree work applications and notifications, dangerous trees on private land, the High Hedges Bill, Hedgerow Removal Notices, Forestry Authority Notifications, landscaping schemes and related issues associated with development sites. The Law, Trees and Rural Hedgerows (excluding domestic hedgerows)Before you fell, lop, top or prune any tree, or undertake works likely to result in the damage or destruction of any tree(s) (inclusive of its rooting system) or rural hedgerows (not urban hedgerows) you should contact the Council’s Tree Officer before commencing works. He will advise you whether there are any planning restrictions applicable to the tree(s) or hedges and what, if anything you need to do next. Warning: There are substantial fines involved for those who undertake unauthorised works to protected trees without written permission from the Council.
