They have a right to a nomadic way of life, to equal access to services and to protection from discrimination and harassment. Lewes District Council has no wish to disrupt or discourage the travelling way of life of Gypsies, Travellers and other persons with no fixed permanent address. However, the Council must balance the rights and needs of Travellers with those of other residents in the District. East Sussex Traveller Strategy Lewes District Council works with East Sussex County Council, local district and borough councils, and Sussex Police on Traveller issues. The East Sussex Traveller Strategy is a joint strategy containing information on the local situation, the legal framework and the procedures that must be followed by the various authorities concerned. Use the following external link to go to the East Sussex County Council's Traveller Strategy webpage, where you can download or view the strategy.
