Radiation

We work in partnership to carry out radiation monitoring as part of the East Sussex Radiation Monitoring Group at five sites in our area.

The results are combined with monitoring data from the other local authorities within East Sussex Radiation Monitoring Group. The members of the group are other local authorities, East Sussex County Council and the Royal Sussex County Hospital. This provides data on background levels of radiation.

The programme was developed to protect and reassure the public. It seeks to establish background levels of radiation against which any future variations can be measured.

Monitoring is undertaken monthly at selected sites using a Mini-Instruments 6-80 environmental monitor for instantaneous monitoring.

The results of the monitoring are presented in an annual report published by the East Sussex County Council.
