To find out the refuse collection day for your area please consult the documents below. The collection days are the same each week apart from changes due to public holidays. These changes are published in the Council's quarterly District Link and on this website (see the "relevant documents" section of this page). To report a 'missed bin' please telephone on 01273 484999 or report this online using the following Fault reporting system. We will endevour to pick up your bin within 24 working hours. Household Waste and the LawBlack refuse bags can be targetted by seagulls, foxes, badgers and other animals that rip the bags open and spread the rubbish across the streets maiking it very unsightly and inconvenient for everyone. The Law - Environmental Protection Act 1990 - Section 46 (Receptacles for Household Waste)Householders in areas where rubbish is often strewn around in this manner may be served with a notice under above legislation requiring them to use a prescribed receptacle to contain their household waste. Failure to comply with the notice can result in a fixed penalty notice being served (under Section 47ZA) or a prosecution. How you can help to minimise this problem If you do not have a wheeled bin - please make sure that all your household waste is placed in a black plastic bag and double tied to prevent spillage. Take particular care to prevent protruding waste from perforating the bag which can cause the waste to escape. Put them out at the edge of your property in a clearly visible location, from 6.00am on the collection day, as this is when the refuse collectors start their rounds. If you are able to place the rubbish out to meet the refuse collection vehicle later than 6.00am this will be acceptable but it will not be considered as a "missed bin" should you place the rubbish out after the vehicle has passed. Purchasing wheeled bins We would like to encourage householders to properly contain their household waste in a receptacle to prevent animals from attacking the black plastic bags. You can make your own provision by buying your own bin. It does not have to be a wheeled bin but it can be. Bins without wheels are more difficult to carry and some are too heavy to lift under Health and Safety law. You can buy our wheeled bins which come in two different sizes as follows:
To place an order please contact us on 01273 484999. If you are unable to keep your household rubbish within the capacity of the bin - we would like to encourage you to adopt the Council's 3 Rs approach. Look at the "The 3Rs: Reduce - Reuse - Recycle" under the "Related Topic" on the right hand side of this page for further information. If you have not participated in the Kerbside Collection Scheme - why not join in - you will be surprised to see how much you can recycle your household waste. Look at the "Recycling Facilities" under the "Related Topic" on the right hand side of this page for further information. Please note: Householders who have or will have bins (including wheeled bins), you are still required to put all the household waste in a black plastic bag inside the bin, this reduces odours, the need for washing and spillage of waste but it also helps prevent industrial injuries to the refuse collectors.
Use the external link below to the online Fault Reporting system to report Highway and Street Cleansing Faults within the East Sussex area directly to the responsible Authority. It takes you through the necessary steps to report a fault.
