It makes sense for all waste to be dealt with as near as possible to where it is produced. We would like our residents and businesses to reduce, reuse, recycle and dispose of any remaining waste.

The Waste Hierarchy

Reduce waste as much as you can first, only then,

Reuse as much as you can of what is left, only then,

Recycle as much as you can of what is left, only then and finally

Dispose of any remaining waste by the Best Practicable Environmental Option.

This is the total net cost of the service divided by the number of residents living in the District. Please note that not all residents pay Council Tax but this figure represents the average cost per person.

The figures are based on financial estimates for 2008/09 (final annual outturns will be known around July 2009) and population figures used by Government in their calculations of Grants as found in the Council's Budget Book.
