A large part of the Town of Lewes is a Conservation Area. We have a duty to ensure their special interest is preserved or enhanced and therefore development proposals are subject to special scrutiny. We have an Architects' Advisory Panel which assists with this work. There are strict controls on the demolition of buildings in Conservation Areas and works to trees. Buildings at RiskBuildings at risk are historic buildings which have deteriorated, become redundant or unoccupied and are under threat from dereliction or demolition and redevelopment. This register also includes buildings that require repair work or maintenance in order to preserve the fabric or appearance. Many of them are in one of the 35 conservation areas in the Lewes district. Conservation area appraisals >Relevant Documents
