How and where can I dispose of asbestos safely?
We can offer advice on the disposal of asbestos on request.
However, if you wish to dispose of asbestos safely you can:
- seek advice on disposal from a licensed asbestos removal company by consulting phone listing directories such as the 'Yellow Pages' or similar internet sites.
- download or view the leaflet Asbestos in the Home - Advice to Householders.
- link to an Asbestos Guide on the Department of the Environment's website
- take it to an approved disposal site, which accepts small quantities of asbestos waste from domestic properties. Contact East Sussex County Council Waste Management (hazardous waste) on 01273 482153 for any approved sites and further advice on disposal
If you wish to speak to an Environmental Health Officer for more advice please telephone 01273 471600 or email ehealth@lewes.gov.uk.
If you are not sure whether a material contains asbestos you should contact an organisation offering a sampling and identification service. These companies can be found through the 'Yellow Pages' under Asbestos Removal.
