Yes you can, but the following will need to be undertaken:
- You will need to check with the Planning Department to ascertain whether you will need to gain Planning Consent before you start your business. This will normally only apply to properties where over half the house is used as a B&B, but it is best to check with Planning beforehand. There will be a charge for those who require consent.
- You will be required to register as a food business with the Council; the relevant form can be obtained from this site (include link) or, alternatively, you can contact Environmental Health.
- Your kitchen will have to comply with current food hygiene laws. This need not involve great expense, please contact Environmental Health for more information. If you use your home as B&B accommodation you will also need to make sure that your customers are safe whilst they are on your property. The Environmental Health Department produces an Information Pack for B&B owners that covers safety laws. Please contact Environmental Health for a copy. In smaller B&Bs, safety laws are enforced by the Health and Safety Executive, you may contact them on (01342) 334200 for further advice.
You may wish to contact one of the Tourist Information Offices if you would like your business included on the Bed & Breakfast Guide published by the Authority.
