What is the Local Development Framework (LDF)?

The purpose of the Local Development Framework is to set out the planning policies for the Lewes District.

If you wish to find out what is happening at the moment with the LDF please click here to learn more about exactly what the Local Development Framework is please read the rest of this page.

Background

As from the end of September 2004, the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 came into operation.   This means that the review of the existing District Local Plan will take the form of the Local Development Framework (LDF). Until it is in place the Local Plan will remain the statutory planning document.

The Local Development Framework will consist of a portfolio of local development documents that set out the spatial planning strategy for the District Council area. In summary, the contents of the Local Development Framework are set out in the following document:

PDF Local Development Framework (45k, plan_LDFdiagram.pdf)

For an interactive guide to Local Development Frameworks provided by the Planning Portal please click on the following link - Interactive Guide to LDFs

For more details about LDFs it is suggested that you look at the Government Office for the South East's web site at http://www.go-se.gov.uk/. Also, the Council has produced a summary leaflet entitled PDF "The Brave New World of Local Development Frameworks" (256kb, plan_braveNewleaflet.pdf). A hard copy of the leaflet is available from the Planning Services reception.

Desperately Seeking LDF

The Council has prepared a short introductory film, setting out what the LDF is about for those people with little, or no, knowledge of the planning system. A trailer for the film, called 'Desperately Seeking LDF' can be viewed by following the link below.

To view the film you will need a copy of Quick Time on your computer. If you do not have a copy you can download the software free from www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.
