Environmental management

Lewes District Council has an environmental management system which has been registered under the Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) since 1999 and certified to ISO 14001 since 2002. These achievements demonstrate the Council's commitment to managing its environmental impacts.

The Council has participated in a EU funded pilot project called 'ecoBUDGET' with partners from across Europe. The project aimed to find new ways of protecting the environment and conserving natural resources. The results of the first year of the project are shown in the 'Relevant documents' section of this page.
