Infectious Diseases

General Practitioners (GP) are required to notify the Consultant in Communicable Disease Control (CCDC) of a number of infectious diseases including food poisoning.

Details of any infectious diseases are passed in confidence to an Environmental Health Officer for investigation. The investigation will attempt to find out what may have caused the illness, give advice to the person unwell and if possible prevent any further illness occurring.

If any local business premises are implicated inspections will be carried out where necessary.  If the infection is thought to have been contracted from premises outside the District we will notify the appropriate Local Authority.

Symptoms of food poisoning can vary but may include some of the following:

If you suspect you may be suffering from food poisoning you should go and see your GP who may arrange for a faecal sample to be taken.
