The key things about Conservation Area Advisory Committees (CAACs) are that most are independent of the local planning authority. They have a broadly based membership with sufficient knowledge and expertise on conservation area matters to add real value to the planning process. If the proposal for pilot committees is well received, we hope to proceed early in the New Year. There are 35 conservation areas within the District and it envisaged that a handful of pilot CAACs will be set up in the New Year following a public consultation process that has just started. People, professional bodies, amenity societies, businesses, local town and village societies and town partnerships are being given the opportunity to respond to the idea of CAACs by completing a short questionnaire, (Annex E in relevant documents). Annex E - Questionnaire to be returned no later than 30 November 2008 and should be sent to: Cllr Peter Gardiner (CAAC) or by email to peter.gardiner@lewes.gov.uk Relevant Documents
Annex A - CAAC Consultation Paper (to be read before questionnaire completed)
Annex B - List of all Conservation Areas and progress on preparation of Character
Annex C - Draft proposal for constitution of CAACs
Annex D - Draft membership including professional bodies
Annex E - Questionnaire to be returned no later than 30 November 2008 to Cllr Peter Gardiner
