A decision on a further application LW/07/1259 - Conservation Area Consent application for removal of wall and section of wall at Lewes House Site, Friars Walk was deferred. LW/07/1259 - Removal of wall & section of wall - Officer's Report The Council has been asked to explain the process by which the Committee reached its decision to defer the application for Conservation Area Consent to demolish one garden wall in the middle of the site together with a further small section of wall. The Committee Minute reads as follows: " That consideration of the following application be deferred for the following reasons: Lewes Conservation Area Consent application for removal of wall NB 1) Mr Robinson and Mrs Ransom spoke against the Application. 2) Reason for Deferral: The process by which the decision to defer the decision on this application was reached was as follows: The first motion, proposed by Councillor Gardiner, was to grant conservation area consent. This motion was voted on but not approved by the committee. The second motion, proposed by Councillor Davy, was to refuse conservation area consent. This motion was withdrawn by Councillor Davy after extensive debate by members of the Committee. There was no vote on this motion. The third motion, proposed by Councillor Davy, was to defer the decision to a future meeting to explore the potential for retaining some or all of the walls. This motion was carried. The fact that the first motion was not approved by the committee is not the equivalent of a refusal. It left the matter open for another motion to be moved. There was no vote on the second motion. The result was that the application for conservation area consent was deferred as agreed by the committee in accordance with the third motion.
