This follows the introduction of the “Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005” What is Environmental Crime?Litter, Graffiti, flytipping, abandoned and nuisance vehicles, dog fouling and flyposting all of which are subject to increased powers and sanctions following the introduction of the “Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005”. This means that authorised staff can issue fixed penalty notices varying between £50 and £500 depending on the specific offence. Prosecutions can follow and for the more serious offence of flytipping the courts can upon conviction impose penalties of up to £50,000 and or a prison term, Cigarette buts and chewing gum are now classed as litter and anyone dropping them anywhere in the open other than a litter bin may be liable to a fixed penalty notice. Nusiance VehiclesThe “Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005” has also created new offences such as “Nusiance Vehicles” which are vehicles on the Highway displayed for sale or repaired on a commercial basis, or vehicles because of their poor condition are causing a nuisance to the local community. Vehicles falling within this category are now under the spotlight and those committing an offence under the act can expect a fixed penalty notice if operating outside of the law. Reporting an abandoned vehicle onlineTo do this, please click on the link below. You will be redirected to the Sussex Police web site where you will be able to enter the details of the vehicle and its location on a Public Reporting Form. The form should only take a few minutes to complete - and the more information you can provide, the quicker we can begin proceedings to remove the vehicle.
