This provides for annual reporting by local authorities of a set of national performance indicators set by the Government. The Government has specified a balanced set of indicators, reflecting the broad range of local services. It has also ensured that they represent policy priorities. The set of indicators has been designed to provide a rounded view of performance. They reflect the resources devoted to the service, the efficiency with which those resources are used, the quality of the service and the service users’ experience of service delivery. The five dimensions of performance are:
The BVPIs are of two types: The Best Value Corporate Health indicatorsThese provide a snapshot of how well the authority is performing overall. These indicators are designed to reflect the underlying capacity and performance of local authorities as democratic institutions responsible for managing a significant share of public expenditure. The Council's most recent performance against the Corporate Health Indicators can be viewed in the Performance Indicator tables below. The Best Value Service Delivery indicators.These indicators enable comparisons to be made between the performance of different authorities, including different types of authorities, and within an authority over time across a range of services. Local Performance IndicatorsAuthorities are encouraged to develop local performance indicators in addition to the BVPIs. Local indicators are an important measure of local performance and of the responsiveness of the authority to meeting local needs. They allow authorities to reflect local priorities and tailor best value to suit local circumstances. They also provide managers with better information.
