Translation, Interpretation & Advocacy

We provide interpreters at interviews or over the phone to help customers whose first language is not English access services. Leaflets and publications can also be translated.

This website has a built-in translation service.    

Translation and Interpretation

We can provide translation of information to customers in community languages other than English and in alternative formats, such as Braille or audio, on request.  No charge is made for reasonable requests and we aim to provide information within 14 days of receiving a request.  Interpretation services for meetings, appointments, and three-way telephone conversations in community languages can also be arranged when required.

To access these services you can either contact any member of staff, who will make the required arrangements, or contact one of our service providers directly.  We are members of the Sussex Interpretation & Translation Patnership, which means we have access to a range of services that provide alternative communication formats.  Please mention 'Lewes District Council' and 'SUSTI' when contacting the providers directly.  Our main service providers & their contact details are:

Bi-lingual advocacy

We work in partnership with Newhaven Community Development Association to provide a bi-lingual advocacy service for residents of the Lewes District from minority ethnic communities.  If you need additional support to access services over & above direct translations & interpretation services, we can refer you to the NCDA's 'Sompriti' service for bi-lingual advocacy support.  Please contact any member of staff, or you can contact the Sompriti service directly on telephone number 01273 612306 or e-mail sompriti@ncda.org.uk.  More information can also be found on their website
