The excavations are taking place on a site next to Walwers Lane and also to the rear of Lewes library. Members of the public are welcome to come along to a series of open days from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th July, which coincides with National Archaeological Week. Guided tours and handling sessions with objects and environmental remains will be taking place starting at 10am and 1pm. A second series of open days will take place from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August 2008. This is an exciting opportunity to understand the work archaeologists do, as well as a great chance to see what is revealed about life in Lewes centuries ago. Lewes District Council together with Ash Mill Developments and the Southern Housing Group have appointed Archaeology South East (ASE) to carry out the archaeological excavations prior to development of these sites. The open days are free but booking is recommended. Please contact Archaeology South-East for more information on 01273 426830, by email fau@ucl.ac.uk or on the web at www.archaeologyse.co.uk/ or www.nationalarchaeologyweek.org.uk/ Ends/ Media enquiries to Liz Lacon, Communications Manager |
