James MacCleary, Lead Councillor for Community at Lewes District Council said “It is really sad that the County Council is considering cutting another crucial bus service from Lewes. We need sustainable solutions to our transport problems. With fuel prices rocketing and an increasingly unpopular and unfair parking scheme in the town we need positive alternatives to our cars. The 128 bus is a key service for residents in Malling and the Nevill that links them with town centre facilities and other transport links such as buses to Brighton and the railway station. The District Council is writing in support of local councillors to object to any cuts to bus services in Lewes, and we are pushing to see better, more frequent and punctual services to continue to encourage people out of their cars." Under the proposals, the 128 service could lose four bus journeys in the morning and four in the afternoon. The plans will be discussed at a County Council transport meeting on June 23.
