Come along to ‘Transit in Transition – looking for an alternative?’ next Wednesday 18th June from 7pm. This exciting evening at Pelham House, St Andrews Lane, Lewes is hosted by Transition Town Lewes and Lewes District Council and will include an exhibition of local transport initiatives followed by talks from leading experts at 8pm. We are very pleased that the speakers include Professor John Whitelegg, who is a leading proponent of sustainable transport and how we create a sustainable world; and John Grimshaw, Director of Sustrans, the UK's leading sustainable transport charity. The debate will be chaired by Councillor Chris Bowers, Lead Councillor for the Environment at Lewes District Council. The exhibitors include Transition Town Lewes, Lewes District Council, East Sussex County Council, Carlotta Luke's Share Spaces initiative, Cycle Lewes's Cycle Map and Oliver Lowenstein's Cycle Station ideas. Ian Eiloart of Transition Town Lewes Transport Group said ‘The evening provides the opportunity for local people to explore how we move around the town and further afield. With rocketing fuel prices and sustainability such current issues we’re looking forward to an interesting evening and a lively debate.’ Normal entrance price is £3 but the first 50 people attending will be free courtesy of Lewes District Council’s Environmental Health department through its ‘THINK AIR’ initiative.
