Councillors and committees

Members of the Cabinet, in the Council ChamberCouncillors are not full-time employees of the council. They are local people elected to represent Lewes district residents and make decisions on their behalf.

Councillors make decisions about the services the council provides at meetings which are open to the public. These are committee meetings and meet regularly. They include Cabinet, Scrutiny Committe, Planning Applications Committee, Licensing Committee, Audit Committee and others.

The links on this page give you more detailed answers to questions about councillors and commitees and how decisions are made. You can sign up for email alerts which let you know when agendas and minutes are published for the committees you are interested in - see the Committees page. Select Councillors and Wards to find out who your councillor is or find out here about how you can become a Councillor.
