Peter Gardiner, Lead Councillor for Planning at Lewes District Council said “It is important for residents and local businesses to be given the facts about how the District Council manages new development and flood risk within the town of Lewes. There are strict guidelines in relation to planning permission being given for developments that are on areas of land at risk from flooding. Development proposals are subject to the most rigorous testing using national and local planning policies. We can, and do, refuse planning permission for inappropriate developments. At the same time we do have to recognise that there are acute housing needs in Lewes and every development proposal that comes forward has to be carefully considered. We hope that people who receive the newsletter will take the time to read it and find out more about planning and flood risk issues”.
