Construction Ltd to construct a new access path and new pointed archway at the chapel. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday 2nd June and is expected to last for a month. This planned improvement work will not affect visitors or relatives who wish to visit the cemetery itself, or burials or internment of ashes taking place. It is only the chapel that will be closed for the month of June. Lewes District Council is keen to progress with improvement work to the chapel which has recently benefited from the fitting of a new roof. The new access path will assist people who are disabled and enable them to reach the chapel easily. There is a requirement under the Disability Discrimination Act to make public places as accessible as possible for disabled people. We have also made contact with local Funeral Directors who are aware of the temporary closure of the chapel so that alternative arrangements can be made. Ends/ Media enquiries:
