Media: 992

Leighside pondOver two years hard work by the young people of the Junior Management Board for Lewes Railway Land Local Nature Reserve will be celebrated on Saturday 17th May at the Railway Land entrance, Railway Lane, Lewes.

The Heritage Lottery Funded Leighside Pond project has involved the restoration of the former Leighside Pond on the Railway Land, the design and build of a bridge and viewing platform over the pond, the design of a water conservation campaign aimed at young people and the creation of a 15 minute film about the work of the Junior Management Board since it was founded in 1996. The funding is also being used to carry out an ecological survey and monitoring by young people to observe the colonisation of the pond by wildlife.

The event on the 17th May starts at 11am with a few words by Chair Elect of Lewes District Council, Councillor Carla Butler. There will then be the premiere screening of the film in a marquee at the Railway Land entrance area. The public are invited to come along to see the film, view the bridge and the surrounding Railway Land reserve. There is no charge for entry.
