This has been made possible because the manufacturers of cartons like Tetra pak have realised the cartons are difficult to deal with and have agreed to make special arrangements to collect the empty cartons and recycle them. The Tetra pak managed collection points are located in the car park of Tesco in Lewes, Sainsbury’s car park in Newhaven, the Meridian Centre in Peacehaven (Co-op), North Street car park Lewes and the Buckle car park Seaford. Eddie Collict, Lead Councillor for the Environment at Lewes District Council said “Cartons are a simple idea which have given the waste industry a problem – they are difficult to recycle. Lewes District Council has managed to negotiate with Tetra Pak for special collection bins at five sites. This is a start but I will not be satisfied until there are bins for cartons at all recycling sites within the Lewes District Council area. If people are not able to take their empty cartons to one of these five sites then I would urge them to return the empty carton back to the store where they originally bought the product”.
