There is simply no excuse for a dull half-term! We are proud to have Benjamin Zephaniah on board as Patron. Hear him talk about his life and inspirations on Soundwave 87.8 fm. ‘… the arts are a great way of celebrating life, and the fact that the organisers of Soundwave 2008 have embraced such a wide range of art forms makes me proud to be associated with them… Soundwave is where it’s at’ The Soundwave 2008 festival kicks off with a gig at Newhaven Fort on Saturday 16th February. Other events include Urban Dayz, a mixture of Dance, Music and Urban Sport, plus a full day of workshops, radio and gigs in Ringmer village on Saturday 23rd February. There is a week of music workshops on offer at various venues throughout the district. Whether it is creating the next Dr Who soundtrack at the Space Age Sound Effects DVD workshop at Lewes Castle or enjoying the Moving Sounds Phat Funky Journey at Lewes YMCA, scheduled for broadcast live on 87.8fm, there is something for everyone. Soundwave 87.8 fm returns 22-24 February. Hosted by young and local presenters, there will be the newest sounds and the most topical sensations by the best young DJ’s, plus special guests. Tune in to hear cutting edge beatboxing and competitions – there is a chance of winning a recording deal or an electric guitar! This year, for the first time, Soundwave 2008 is launching a new web based radio station for young people which will continue throughout the year and become a permanent venture. Based at Lewes YMCA, this will enable young people in Lewes District to be a part of radio online.
