Lewes District Community Safety Partnership

Lewes District Community Safety PartnershipWe work in partnership with many organisations including the Police to prevent criminal activity in our communities.

The aim of the Partnership is to reduce the fear, incidence and the consequences of crime and anti-social behaviour in Lewes District.

The Lewes District Community Safety Partnership is made up of statutory and non-statutory organisations required by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to work together to reduce crime and disorder for the benefit of the community.

Statutory members include Lewes District Council, the Police, Sussex Police Authority, East Sussex County Council, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and the East Sussex Downs & Weald NHS Trust and Surrey and Sussex Probation Trust.

They are joined by voluntary agencies as well as representatives from business and community groups to work together to tackle crime, the underlying causes of crime, and the fear of crime to make Lewes District a safer place to live, work and visit.

Residents and visitors to Lewes District should be free to live without fear of crime or anti-social behaviour. The District is a very low crime area and the crime rate has been falling over the years, however, public perception nationally is that crime is rising and Lewes District is no exception.

The CSP's Strategy group meets regularly to review crime trends and consider the issues raised by the community through Neighbourhood Panels. In addition, the annual County Strategic Intelligence Assessment informs the CSP of trends identified from data received from various sources.

This allows the CSP to target its resources appropriately and determine what the priorities will be for the 3 year plan period 2011 – 2014.
The following 3 priorities have been identified:
