We provide bins for the disposal of litter and dog mess in public places which are emptied on a regular basis. Town and Parish Councils also provide bins they are responsible for.
The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 states that if a person drops, throws, deposits, or leaves anything that causes defacement in a public place, they are committing a littering offence. So always try to use a litter bin or take it home.
Our litter bins should be used for litter from the public highways only. It is not to be used for dog waste, cat litter or household waste from your private residence. If one of our bins is full, you can report it to us to be emptied.
Incidents of dog fouling and not cleard up afterwards can be reported. If possible, take a note of the date, time, location and details of the dog owner (if known).
It is an offence not to clear up after your dog when it has fouled an area to which the public have access. We are unable to get involved with incidents on private property and we can only offer advice and suggest you seek legal representation if the problem persists.
If someone is allowing a dog to foul outside your house we may be able to help, as long as it is not the frontage of your property.
To report a problem with dog fouling please contact Customer Services.
The dog bins are specifically for the disposal of dog faeces from parks or on the street. If no bin is readily available it should be taken home and disposed of in a hygienic manner. Should one of our bins be full, you can report it to us for emptying.
