Sandbags

Sandbags are issued under a priority scheme but we advise residents take their own steps to protect their property.

In a flood emergency, we will issue sandbags under a priority system. We first deploy available sandbags in locations that help protect whole areas rather than individual properties.

Sandbag depots will be established for individual householders and businesses close to flood risk areas during times of emergency. However, cannot guarantee to meet all demands.

Sandbags are temporarily deposited at:

• Saxon Lane car park Seaford
• The Buckle car park, Marine Parade, Seaford
• Valley Road, Newhaven
• Mountfield Road car park, Lewes

We advise households and businesses to make their own plans to handle a flood emergency. This should include providing your own sandbags to protect property.

Sandbags can be purchased from builders merchants. However, grow bags, bin liners or plastic bags filled with soil or sand will also do a sufficient job at keeping water out.

Elderly or vulnerable residents are asked to seek assistance from neighbours or friends to collect sandbags on their behalf.
