Managing Flooding

At times of flooding, we have certain responsibilities to support the response.

At times of heavy rainfall we work with emergency services,  the county council and local communities to ensure we respond effectively to flood emergencies.

We will help promote awareness amongst the affected community and issue sandbags where required.

Our role is to reduce risk from non-main rivers and where land drainage problems occur. We’ll work closely with other authorities responsible main rivers.

Heavy Rainfall

Periods of intense rainfall can cause problems: a surge in sewers, heavy runoff of water from slopes, surface water flooding low-lying areas and a back-up of stream culverts, ditches and gullies.

If your property is liable to flooding, simple precautions are advisable. Ensure all gullies, watercourses and ditches in the vicinity are kept clear of obstructions.

If necessary keep a small quantity of sandbags available to protect doorways, entrances and air bricks. Keep valuables or electrical equipment out of harms way.
