Caravan sites
It is a requirement of the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 that planning permission must be obtained before a site licence can be issued. In order to apply please contact the Environmental Health Department on 01273 484358 or e-mail ehealth@lewes.gov.uk for an application form, set of current conditions and relevant advice from a Licensing Officer. There are several categories of licence, as follows:
On receipt of a completed form we will liase with the Fire Brigade and the Council's Planning Department, and an Environmental Health Officer will contact you to make an appointment to inspect the site. This will involve ensuring that the permitted numbers are not exceeded, there is adequate separation between caravans, ample fire safety equipment available, the construction and cleanliness of the communal facilities, construction of the roadways on the site, sufficient refuse facilities, gas safety and the drainage of the site. If the Officer recommends the licence be granted it will be sent to you with a copy of the conditions. (the conditions are likely to differ from the standard conditions previously sent as amendments are made to cater for each individual site). These conditions must be adhered to at all times when caravans are present on the site. All licences issued are permanent, with the exception of special short term licences, which are valid for three years only. If there is an increase in the number of caravans or holiday periods are extended, please notify this Department, as a further inspection will be required. Relevant Documents
