If you board cats or dogs you will require a licence under the Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963. A licence is required by any person that carries on the business of providing accommodation for other people's dogs or cats. The form should then be completed and returned, together with a cheque for £120, being the current standard fee. (A combined Dog & Cat Boarding Licence will be charged at the same rate i.e. £120). If the premises you are intending to use is not currently operating as a Boarding Establishment, you are advised to contact our Planning Department on 01273 484420 regarding 'change of use'. We will acknowledge receipt of a completed application form and send a receipt for the fee. An Officer will then make contact to organise an inspection of the premises. This inspection will take account of the number of animals boarded, the accommodation for the animals, the food preparation and isolation areas. Once completed, and provided the premises meets all specified conditions, a licence will be granted and issued, together with a copy of the specified conditions. These conditions must be adhered to and the licence should be on visible display at the premises at all times. Licences are renewable annually on 1st January. To assist current licence holders a reminder letter and renewal form will be sent prior to that date.
