Animal Boarding Licence

Boarding kennels need to a licence to operate. These are available from us for a fee and are renewable annually.

Dog and cat boarding kennels require a licence to operate. To obtain one, a completed application form should be returned to us for consideration.

A fee of £125 is charged. A combined dog & cat boarding licence will be charged at the same rate of £125.

Licences are renewable annually on 1 January.  Reminders and renewal forms are sent prior to this date.

Planning permission may be required if a change of use is needed on the intended premises. Our planning officer can offer advice.

We inspect premises once receiving an application. This takes into account of the number of animals boarded, the accommodation, food preparation and isolation areas.

Providing the premises meet all specified conditions, a licence will be granted and issued together with a copy of the specified conditions.

These conditions must be adhered to and the licence should be on visible display at the premises at all times.

Inspections are carried out by on an annual basis ensuring licence conditions are being fully complied with, prior to the issue or renewal of a licence.

Complaints

Pet owners who are unhappy with the conditions of the establishment and feel it had an impact on their animal’s health can complain.

Firstly contact your vet to establish whether the illness may have occurred as a result of your pet being boarded at the kennels.

If your complaint concerns the way your pet was treated whilst kennelled, the RSPCA can offer advice. We may carry out a joint inspection of the business.
